This is pioneering that is both purposeful and worthwhile |
Aims
To undertake an Arctic journey of over 200 miles, across the island of Spitsbergen in Svalbard, Norway – 79 degrees North.
To deliver the reality of global climate change and gather crucial sets of data to the scientific community
To educate, inform and entertain; raising awareness of the Arctic Region, the plight of its wildlife and its people
The Ice Warrior Svalbard Expedition
In April 2007 a team of 5 fully trained novices from all walks of life and echelons of society will undertake an incredible journey southeast into the hinterland of Spitsbergen and then north up the coastline of Storfjorden to gather vital data on the population of polar bears in the vicinity. Led by Ice Warrior’s senior trainer, Matt O’Brien and overseen by polar explorer and founder of Ice Warrior, Jim McNeill, the journey represents Ice Warrior’s first contribution to International Polar Year.
Polar bear data will be gathered on behalf of the Norwegian Polar Institute and made available to the entire scientific community.
This is amazing journey will help to discover and portray the effects of global climate change on what has become acknowledged as the barometer of the rest of the world and as with all Ice Warrior expeditions the journey will be discussed and shown to audiences around the globe.
