Ice Warrior is all about doing things properly and our Ice Warrior comprehensive training programme demonstrates this. On our flagship expeditions we train all participants to be safe and competent polar travellers, from scratch, carefully measuring and recording progress and that takes time and effort. BUT NOW you can attend any course in isolation and for your own purposes. So whether you're heading towards an Ice Warrior flagship expedition or considering your own expedition you can join us and benefit from Jim's 27 years of polar training experience.
It you are interested in joining any of our events don't leave it until it is too late - just drop us an email to let us know you are thinking about coming along!

A dream come true? It's on this weekend you'll find out whether you are suitable or not for a full-blown polar expedition. You'll meet us, current participants and kindred spirits. All in an atmosphere of adventure and challenge.
Perhaps your first experience of the Arctic and a really cold climate. Undertaken during the Arctic winter but accommodated in a comfortable learning environment.
For those who want to learn about the art of putting any expedition on. Using the polar expedition as an example you will be taken through these vital steps of preparation, thoroughly.
For those with some basic knowledge of navigating using a map and compass who want to progress through basic use of GPS, to advanced use and other specific methods of navigation.
It is essential that every person in a team pushing the boundaries can cope in a time of crisis. Ice Warrior medical training will give you the knowledge and skills to prepare for eventualities and the practice to be proficient.
I can’t thank you enough for last week. Every day was a pleasure and your teaching style was simply brilliant. It was a pleasure to meet you, proud to have the chance of getting involved in the IW projects and thanks, very much, for a thoroughly fantastic week. Justin.
"Thank you for an amazing week. The accommodation was awesome and extremely friendly, I’m glad to have had the opportunity to go to Svalbard, which means that I now need to go back to see more of it! I found the training very informative in a casual way and enjoyed undertaking the tasks. Jim's wealth of knowledge and experience shines through his friendly and approachable teaching style, this and meeting likeminded people has made this experience unforgettable." Adam
I think Ice Warrior have got the basic training in Norway just right. The practical parts of the course are complimented well by the class room work. Although the course is a lot of work, it’s well worth the experience. I had a great time. Chris H

Joining the Ice Warrior team was something that would give me the opportunity to take part in a truly mind-blowing journey, pushing the boundaries of human endurance & achieving what so few had. With this training this would be possible.
An inspiration to all, a challenging, beneficial & valuable expedition. Mark D

"I have spent many a weekend in the hills but none like this. You will definitely be better prepared for anything after this weekend and it was an enjoyable experience that I will long remember." Denis

"The weekend is as much a mental test as a physical one. It's hugely enjoyable finding out how you function when you are cold, tired and hungry. So often we curse our sat nav for making us drive effortlessly down the wrong road in complete warm and safe comfort. When you have a map and compass in your hand there is no one else to blame if it goes wrong. It's a weekend of making new friends, teamwork, personal growth, exploring your own limits - it's tough fun. I most enjoyed the dynamic of the team, everyone had different roles, strengths and even these changed over the time we spent together. A couple of times I asked myself why had I come on the weekend but I'd do it again at the drop of a hat!" Craig

"The weekend was hard work but superb fun. It was fantastic to be in the company of like-minded people with whom I shared mutual goals and who didn't think I was a barking mad eccentric (as people generally do!!) Ice Warrior is the most difficult, arduous mission I have ever set myself, and the fund-raising aspect is every bit as daunting as the physical task ahead. There's nowhere to hide from your weaknesses and the only solution is to face them head-on and steam-roll straight over them!
I am more determined than ever to rise to the many challenges involved and I have no doubt whatsoever that I will do so, but I just know it's going to be really, really painful!" Heidi B

“I’ve had a fantastic time on the weekend. The people have been so friendly and I’ve made some great memories.” Neil S

"I am writing to thank you for a most wonderful weekend. It was an absolutely amazing experience". Olga
Testimonial from Justin Miles
"Heading off to the depths of the Arctic or Antarctic for an expedition of any sort isn’t something that should be taken lightly. Anyone thinking of taking part in ‘something polar’ should make sure that they’ve been on a comprehensive course, or series of courses, which cover ever everything including health and safety, navigation, camp-craft, fitness, nutrition and first aid. The polar regions are dangerous and hostile environments which demand the upmost respect. Polar training isn’t a ‘nice to’, it’s a ‘must do’
When I decided that the polar regions were somewhere that I'd like to explore I knew that I needed to expand my knowledge and experience and so I looked for the most respected authority on the matter that I could find - and that's when I first came across Jim McNeill and enrolled on his training programme.
Jims teaching technique was brilliant and made learning an effortless process. Through a combination of theoretical lessons and discussions, many of them in the field and hours of practice I took on vast amounts of information leading us to being better prepared for whatever polar travels lay ahead for me.
I can't recommend Jim enough. If you're reading this and considering enrolling with Ice Warrior please do feel free to contact me direct if you'd like to discuss it in more detail." justforthechallenge (at) gmail.com
