The Ice Warrior Geomagnetic North Pole Expedition 2011 – New Route

Reaching the Geomagnetic Pole is an amazing adventure and offers, in one journey, a whole range of Arctic experiences. To date only 32 people have ever reached the pole, 24 of whom were on Ice Warrior expeditions.

For 2011 we are putting together a team of people with the right attitude and characteristics and training them in everything they need to know to attempt a new route to the Geomagnetic Pole, via the vast and spectacular Agassiz Ice Cap.

You Could be One of Them!

The journey will start at the beginning of April when the team will fly into Canon Fiord and venture down the fiord on relatively flat, land-locked ice. When they reach the end of the spectacular fiord they’ll encounter the tip of a massive glacier dripping down from the summit plateau of the ice cap. Just to the south of this and parallel they enter a huge, as yet, un-named valley which will take them up to a high point on the edge of the ice cap itself at about 4,500 feet. From here they have to carefully weave down a tricky glacier eventually meeting a second glacier known as the Eugene Glacier and all the way to Dobbin Bay on the eastern coast of Ellesmere Island. Having entered the bay they turn northeast and back onto land to travel down another vast valley system, finally reaching the position of the pole after an assent of a 3,500 ft mountain. Having reached the pole it is then a cautious descent to the coast where we will call in an aircraft pick-up.

All-in-all an incredible adventure fraught, throughout, with danger and excitement. Not only will the team have to endure the now unpredictable Arctic spring season with its huge swings in temperature and weather systems coming from all directions but they will need to put all their new-found skills to work traversing the treacherous but awesomely beautiful scenery.
